In the patient whose immune system is weakened by the HIV virus, many diseases that are normally harmless, some mild or rare diseases also occur. In addition, enlargements in the lymph nodes, recurrent cold sores in the mouth and skin, wounds and red spots on the body, long-term fever of unknown cause, night sweats, weight loss, diarrhea, cough are seen. Opportunistic infections such as thrush, other bacteria, fungi and protozone diseases occur in the mouth. Some diseases occur spontaneously in 2-4 weeks. It is important to have an HIV test to make an early diagnosis after a suspicious contact.
When do AIDS symptoms start?
Once infected with the HIV virus that causes AIDS, the virus multiplies and starts to weaken the immune system. The first symptoms appear after 2-6 weeks. After 6 weeks, the immune weakness becomes more pronounced. The onset of AIDS symptoms means that CD4 cells are destroyed. In general, this period is between 8 and 10 years. This may be longer for some people.
How is AIDS transmitted?
The HIV virus is transmitted from the mother through the blood, through the transfer of blood, blood products, tissues or organs of the HIV positive person, through sexual intercourse with the person who has HIV / AIDS, from the mother, who is unaware that she carries HIV / AIDS in her pregnancy. The most common way of transmission is breast milk. If the person who has sex with an HIV-infected partner has other sexual illnesses (gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis herpes, etc.), the risk of contamination increases exponentially. In addition, the age of the partner, the stage of the disease, the type of relationship and risk varies. The risk is also high in the relationship between menstrual bleeding in women. The more sexual intercourse you have, the more likely you are to get HIV.
