52 new drugs and vaccines to be used in HIV treatment and protection are waiting for the order.
About 40 years ago, since the first HIV event in the United States, activists, healthcare providers, researchers, government agencies and the pharmaceutical industry have taken many important steps to prevent and treat HIV.
The new scientific findings have not only prevented HIV transmission, but have also been instrumental in improving the quality of life of HIV-positive individuals around the world.2017 was a great year in which the winds of optimism continued to blow with the developments in this field. The 2017 HIV / AIDS Drug Developments report published by the American Association for Drug Research and Producers states that 52 new drugs and vaccines are underway. 32 of the studies listed are drug therapies for new antiretroviral and antivirals (ART), 16 of which are included in vaccines and 4 of them in a method developed to prevent the virus from attacking cells. The report also states that some studies are at the level of clinical trials and others are under review and approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

According to the findings published in The Lancet - Infectious Diseases, one of the most respected publications in the field of HIV science, there is an increase in the number of HIV-positive individuals worldwide who are resistant to the drugs they use *. When it comes to resistance, the development of new treatments to control this situation is a breathtaking development. According to the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Report published in 2012, 2 out of every 10 new HIV cases developed resistance to one or more drug treatment groups.
* The drugs used by HIV-positive individuals, irregular drug use or discontinuation of treatment and so on. cessation
Reports indicate that less than 1% of all new HIV diagnoses recorded in the United States last year showed full resistance to all treatment groups. This ratio is much lower in Turkey. However, this ratio, which is statistically small, means hundreds of people in daily life. Newly developed drugs also mean new options for these cases, new hopes. With the publication of the PhRMA Report, the American Biopharmaceutical Companies announced that they had started a new campaign called ether Together Hep, with an HIV positive individual and a researcher working in a drug development laboratory.
Since the first AIDS case occurred in 1981, the FDA has approved the use of more than 40 HIV drugs, PhRMA reports. With the discovery of antiretroviral therapies in the mid-1990s, one of the major turning points in the field of pharmaceuticals was the dramatic decline in the number of AIDS-based deaths.
The next major discovery in the field of HIV treatment may be a “definitive treatment”, “depot drugs” or ’protective vaccine’. There are developments that cannot be underestimated in all these areas. Time will tell what's going to happen.
